What additional fees besides the entry fees for the Pacific Coast Bike Race?
Tracking Fee:
Approximately $25.00 to 90.00 USD paid to Trackleaders due in the weeks just
before the start of the race. The fees are roughly approximate and are for one of two
different services.
If you rent a SPOT tracker from Trackleaders, it's around $100.00 USD and this
reserves your tracker for 30 days.
If you own a SPOT tracker already and pay the necessary tracking service through
http://findmespot.com the estimated $40.00 fee will then be payable to Trackleaders.
Trackleaders is where the "Dot Watching" takes place.Insurance Fee:
Racers will be required to have personal medical, emergency evacuation and
repatriation of remains insurance, this insurance needs to specifically cover non
professional bike racing. We are not in the business of selling insurance however we
will make recommendations as requested. (Worlds Nomad is popular and very
reasonable)
You are signing the waiver stating that you have these insurances in place.
Race day start time, if you are not bound into a valid and enforceable insurance
contracts you automatically disqualify yourself from the 2025 Pacific Coast Bike
Races.
In the real world terms of tracker rentals, it's best to have your tracker rented and
returned around the 30 days allocated. If you're going to rent a tracker, you've got 30
days until it's going to need to be returned, so plan accordingly.
Questions
All questions can be directed to pacificcoastbikerace@bikerider.com - We're more
than happy to help with questions on SPOT tracking and rough logistics on travel to
and from the start.
Contact with race organization during the race.
Race directors are racing. We ask as a first point of contact in a non-emergency
situation that you use the official race email: pacificcoastbikerace@bikerider.com
!f you have any kind of collision or wreck, even a small one, you should inform your
next of kin first, and then the race organization as soon as you are able to do so. If
the race organization learns of an incident, first it will attempt to advise your next of
kin so that they may begin to assist you if necessary.
Safety and equipment check requirements
2 high powered bicycle mounted front lights. We want to know that you have a
backup if your primary light fails.
2 high powered tail lights.
Reflective tape on rear of seat stays as well as sides of seat stays and chain stays,
reflective tape on fork blades, reflective tape on rims, essentially any bare areas of
the bike that are visible should be taped.
Functioning front and rear brakes.Helmets are required
Torso reflective, we are using Randonneur USA’s guide for reflectivity as a baseline
ttps://rusa.org/reflectivity/ Torso reflectivity is mandatory during the twilight hour
and all night riding
Clothing color: we are requesting that black or any dark color be avoided.
Daytime running lights, daylight visible flash rear lights, mirrors, additional reflective
tape are required.
A final note on safety: Any violations of not conforming to the safety rules and
requirements will immediately disqualify you from the event. We are strict on our
policies for a reason; YOUR SAFETY
Bike inspection
We aim to facilitate an entirely self inspection process to replace the need for an in
person inspection. We have given and listed the requirements. Please do not show
up to the pre-race meeting not meeting the rules and required equipment.
Rider identification
Riders are expected to carry identification on both body and bike. There are
numerous ways to achieve this. For the bike we require a laminated ID card taped in
a visible location in the front. We require your full name and your next of kin’s name
and contact information. Additionally on your body we require this same
identification worn either on the wrist or around the neck. We recommend dog tags
or a service such as Road ID - We are in no way affiliated with Road ID, there are
other services out there that may suffice, shop around.
Rider behavior
Obey all traffic laws. DO NOT insist on your right of way under any
circumstances. The 3 foot lane rule is not to be enforced. Surrender all bicycle rights
to the vehicles, you will lose against a 3000 pound moving vehicle! Road rage is
enhanced by non cycling drivers that don’t care about your cycling rights. Do not
entice any interactions with any motor vehicle. AGAIN - use DEFENSIVE SAFETY
tactics to eliminate a negative outcome. We do not have to be right or insist we have
rights, you are dealing with people who don’t care unfortunately. Expect doors to
open when parked, expect cars to turn right and cut you off as you are in their blind
spot. DEFENSE SAVES LIVES!!!
Booking accommodationsNo bookings of any sort may be made before the race starts, during the event
advance booking of rooms is permitted. There is no caching of supplies at hotels.
Results, penalties, etc.
We don’t like to officiate and we do not intend to judge anyone’s character for
mistakes made during the race. It’s really just a bike ride, and if you want to take it
seriously or not that’s on you. If you have questions or concerns please email us.
We insist upon racers showing respect and not feeling the need to call others out on
social media and certainly not on our own channels. ZERO TOLERANCE
Watching the race
For those watching the race, there are a few methods to keep up with the race as it
all happens. The central feature of the race is the satellite trackers that each racer
carries. It’s possible for a dot watcher to build a picture of the race from a wide array
of media. From Facebook to the street view and weather features on the map, fans
and friends can at least make a feeble attempt to understand your personal trials and
tribulations. Searching the hashtag #pcbr2025 will be the best way to follow
along on various social media.
Next of Kin
All riders are required to give details of their next of kin. The race organization
advises that riders discuss their entry into the race with their next of kin prior to this
and that the next of kin understand that the rider knowingly is taking full responsibility
for their ride and they won’t be getting any assistance. This can avoid them
misunderstanding. Note that riders are requested to notify their next of kin first
before reporting issues to the race organization and notification of next of kin may be
made by any emergency services, so it is likely that next of kin may become aware of
an incident before the race organization. In the event of an incident the race
organization may not make any public statements without first contacting next of kin
and verifying information.
The Rules Rule #1: No complaining about the rules.
The Pacific Coast Bike Race is based on one guiding principle: Cycle the
Pacific Coast Bike Race map as fast as possible in a solo, self-supported
fashion and practice SAFETY at all times and finish the race safely.
Spirit: Above all, attempts are intended to be solo/self-supported, self-timed,
and observed as one stage, i.e. the clock runs non-stop. The challenge is
complete upon arrival to the Unconditional Surrender Statue in San Diego. There are 3 required checkpoints or designated rest periods on course for the
PCBR 1500.

To complete the Route, a rider may resupply food/equipment, rent a room,
launder clothing, even service their bike at commercial shops along the way.
The intent is to ride unsupported between towns, and function self-supported
when in towns. Any services utilized must always be commercially available to
all racers. Family and friends may visit riders en route but can in no way
provide material support or shelter.
In the event of a serious mechanical failure that renders one’s bike unrideable,
a rider may be assisted by a motor vehicle in moving backwards, forwards, or
directly off the route. A rider may also receive assistance returning back to the
location they left the route.
GPS navigators are all but essential, the GPX route is the gospel. SPOT
GPS trackers are required for racing. Final rankings will be based on SPOT
tracking data. Mobile phones are also permitted, though service can be very
spotty. Social media is actively encouraged, but within the spirit of the race,
best applied as a way to send messages out, not so much back in.
Riders alone are responsible for their safety. Riders alone must police their
conduct. There is no mechanism to communicate to riders on course. Riders
alone are responsible for communicating with their loved ones. Updates to
the dispatch are time-delayed and not intended to ensure rider safety. Online
GPS tracking is also not intended to ensure rider safety. It is for info-only, and
validation of course complianceRelegation: Pacific Coast Bike Race reserves the right to relegate a rider from
the race for confirmed rules violations, especially safety requirements.
It is the sole responsibility of all riders to know the rules, police themselves,
and in cases of course deviation, recognize their error and correct it before
proceeding on route.
Riding together is permitted with 50 feet between riders or side by side.
Yelling “car back” and dropping back behind your side partner is not
permitted. You must only ride side by side when the shoulder is wide enough
and clearly a safe situation to ride side by side. You may not share tools,
supplies, food, water or give any assistance to your riding partner. Only
instance allowed is medical assistance.
It is the rider’s responsibility to know and observe local laws. Note: If a racer
voluntarily scratches from the race, yet continues on to finish the Pacific
Coast Bike Race their individual tracking page will remain online/updated for
informational purposes.
Let us all come together in the spirit of the cycling community and have
an amazing race experience!.
